What Is Thighplasty?Thighplasty is a procedure of cosmetic plastic surgery to enhance the lower body. Aging decreases the elasticity of the lower body skin causing a dimpled look for some patients that can be visible through clothing, giving a lumpy look. It is the procedure to smooth and shape the entire hip, buttock, and thigh area. Thighplasty - For Whom?
Thighplasty (thigh buttock lift) is definitely an impeccable solution to loss of skin elasticity of the thigh and buttock areas. If skin in the area is saggy, flabby, dimpled or has an “orange peel” look, thighplasty improves the skin by lifting and stretching lax skin of the buttock and thigh. It is directed to those who are conscious about lower body appearance. Thighplasty decreases irregularities of the buttocks and thigh, and gives enhanced contour to the buttock. Thighplasty - The ProcedureFirst things first, to perform a buttock lift surgery, it is better to call the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) to see who regularly performs the buttock lift procedure. To play safe and not to be duped by many trying to take advantage of limited budgets and advertised cheaper services, consulting with the ASPS to find an experienced surgeon is the best approach. One should rely only on a well-trained doctor with a proven track-record of thighplasty to get one’s buttock lift done correctly. Nonetheless, buttock lift surgery should be preceded by thorough consideration of the candidate and proper evaluation by the surgeon. Thighplasty - Prerequisites of Buttock Lift
Good general health is must for thighplasty. The surgeon will determine if a buttock lift is the best procedure for the particular patient’s needs. Perhaps liposuction can create a more shaped buttock and thigh area, in which case, butt or thigh lift may not be necessary. However, if a buttock lift is indicated, the candidate must not foster unrealistic expectations. As with any cosmetic surgery, the results may not be as perfect as expected. Thighplasty - Risks & Complications
As thighplasty/buttock lift is performed in a high activity area of the body, there are many more risks than with other cosmetic surgery procedures. Because the area is constantly sat on and moved, the chances of infection are greater. Complications may also include bleeding and asymmetrical results. Following the surgeon’s orders prior to and following the surgery will lessen the chance of any complications. Nerve damage has also been associated with the buttock lift procedure. Patients who smoke may experience longer healing times, so it may be advised that a patient stop smoking for two weeks prior to the buttock lift surgery.
Thighplasty - Recovery
Following the buttock lift, a patient may need to stay in the hospital for a time. If the buttock lift was extensive, then skilled nursing staff will take care of the patient-providing injections, catheters, etc. For less extensive buttock lifts, a patient may return to their home following a brief stay in the recovery room. Some patients will need pain medication following the surgery. To prevent swelling after the buttock lift, a compression bandage or stocking may be used around the area. This dressing helps to promote shrinkage of the skin and therefore, tightening of the region. |
